We talk about divorce after we are over it. Abuse after we leave. Being broke after we are financially stable. Grief once we can talk about it without making everybody uncomfortable.
We package the mess into a beginning, middle, and inspirational ending.
But what about while it is happening?
When you went back. When your marriage is falling apart. When you are starting over and it does not feel remotely inspirational. When you fucked up. When somebody else fucked you up. When there is no lesson yet.
I don't fucking know yet. I'm still in it.
That is allowed here.
Sometimes these will be stories from years ago. Sometimes they will be from yesterday. Eventually, they will not only be mine.
Maybe somebody needs a resource. Maybe they need permission to leave. Maybe they need permission to stay while they figure shit out. Maybe they just need to laugh.
Or maybe for five minutes they need to know: I am not the only one.
Real doesn't mean reckless.
We can be raw without being careless with other people's lives. We distinguish what we know, what we experienced, and what we believe. We do not publish private identifying details just because they make a story more dramatic.
Tell the truth as you know it today. You might tell it differently tomorrow. That is kind of the point.
